Incorporated into a number of CTG products are specialized antennas or probes that enable measurement of materials in various environments. These probes can be purchased as part of a system or separately for your own application. The spot probe technology we developed is called AMMP, or Advanced Microwave Mapping Probe. It is a significant improvement over traditional dielectrically loaded horns because the metal radiating elements and dielectric loading and shape were optimized together using the latest in CEM tools.

AMMP SP218 Spot Probe

Designed by CTG as part of a SBIR contract, this spot probe eliminates the need for a focusing lens. The light weight design allows for easy attachment to any system and makes it more portable for potential field uses.

  • 7″ long by 2″ diameter
  • Excellent VSWR from 2.5-20 GHz
  • Approximately 2″ diameter spot mid-band

AMMP SP2040 Spot Probe

The SP2040 expands our reach into millimeter waves with frequencies up to 40 GHz.

  • 3.5″ long by 2″ diameter
  • Excellent VSWR from 20-40 GHz

AMMP SP324 Spot Probe

A new take on the SP218 CTG original, the SP324 is even smaller and wider band which opens up more possibilities in the manufacturing and field environments.

  • 3″ long by 2″ diameter
  • Excellent VSWR from 3-24 GHz
  • Approximately 2″ diameter spot mid-band

Handheld Reflectometer Measurement System

Compass Technology Group (CTG) is excited to introduce a portable, handheld reflectometer system that is suitable for point inspection of RF coatings and materials.  This system provides 2-18 GHz surface reflectivity measurement using CTG’s RF spot probe technology.

The system includes tight integration with a Copper Mountain vector network analyzer, which eliminates RF cable, enabling, faster, more reliable measurements.

The CTG reflectometer system includes a variety of spacers that ensures the spot probe maintains proper distance to the surface under measurement.

The system relies on an SP218 RF spot probe, which is specially designed to provide a small, illumination spot 1 to 3 inches in front of probe.  They are compact and rugged with a wide band performance, making them an excellent choice for use in such a hand-held, reflectometer system.

A Handheld version of CTGcalc™ is supplied to assist in the taking of RF measurements. The software acquires reflection data and includes routines for inverting thickness or displaying the material performance, among other things.

Table Top Measurement System

Compass Technology Group’s portable, table-top free-space measurement system can replace the industry standard laboratory focused beam system, at less then a third of the price, and a fraction of the space. This system easily takes RF material measurement out of the lab and into the field or manufacturing environment.

The table-top frame secures wide band 2-20 GHz probes at the proper alignment and distance for optimal measurements. It is versatile and easy to use with multiple specimen types and sizes. The RF spot probes can even be removed and used as hand-held measurement devices on specimens that are too large to fit in the frame. This lightweight, small footprint device can easily be carried by one person to any location.

The SP218 RF probes are specially designed antennas encapsulated in a dielectric and optimized to provide a small, illumination spot 1 to 3 inches in front of the probe. They are compact and rugged, making them an excellent choice for a portable, table-top free-space measurement system.

CTGcalc™ is our software platform developed to assist in the taking of RF measurements. The application communicates with a number of supported analyzers to take and record calibration and measurement data. Material properties (dielectric permittivity, magnetic permeability, and sheet impedance) can then be extracted from appropriate measurements.

Microwave Calipers Measurement System

Compass Technology Group’s portable, microwave caliper measurement system brings the lab out into the field.

The light weight and adjustable fixture secures wide band 2-20 GHz probes at the proper alignment and distance for optimal measurements. It is versatile and easy to use with multiple specimen types and sizes. The RF spot probes can even be removed and used as hand-held measurement devices on specimens that are too large to fit in the largest setting. This small footprint device can easily be carried by one person to any location.
