Compass started as a research and development organization to address material characterization needs for the Department of Defense through a small business grant.  This project developed a microwave mapping technology for measuring electromagnetic performance of advanced aircraft canopies. Our sensor technology quickly grew to other applications from academic research to coatings measurement to food and agriculture.  We built on this success by developing other microwave materials measurement systems for manufacturing and other non-destructive evaluation applications.  The owner, Becky Schultz, leveraged her engineering knowledge, small business experience and leadership training with the U.S. Air Force to grow the business into a thriving company.  John, her husband and company’s Chief Scientist, leveraged his expertise as a former Georgia Tech Research Fellow to innovate new devices solving difficult customer requirements.  With help from other partners and employees, the pair was able to acquire additional grant funding through a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program also known as America’s Seed Fund. Leveraging these grants, we began developing a customer base that sustained and grew Compass to what it is today.

Compass Technology Group (CTG) is a leading provider of innovative radio frequency (RF) materials measurement systems.  With depth and breadth of expertise in materials science, antenna/probe design, systems engineering and software development, CTG has pioneered new lab-precision microwave and millimeter wave measurements for its customers. Our systems go where the need is, whether on the manufacturing floor, out in the field, or in the laboratory. We offer powerful, customizable and user-friendly table-top, hand held and robotic systems with dynamic measurement abilities for complex applications.  From 1MHz to 100GHz, CTG’s material measurement products enable cutting edge microwave mapping and material characterization that leads to improved component performance in defense and aerospace, civil engineering, food and agriculture, telecommunications, and other critical business environments.

Team Celebration Event – Bury the Hatchet Axe Throwing

Sure, we are all business and an organization of thinkers and doers but we do make time to celebrate Compass milestones!  We recently celebrated the CTG’s 10 year Anniversary by going to Bury the Hatchet Axe throwing center in Alpharetta Georgia!  Take a look at some of the highlights.
