FLAT Family: Smaller and Lighter Horn Antennas
Flat Lens Antenna Technology (FLAT) is a wide bandwidth, low frequency antenna that has directivities like conventional dual-ridged horn antennas but in a much smaller and lighter form, while maintaining equivalent VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio). FLAT antennas include advanced metamaterials for enhancing gain and reducing back and side-lobes and are designed to operate at VHF through microwave frequency bands.
Applications of the FLAT Antennas:
- FLAT antennas are a direct replacement for linearly polarized wide band horns. They are smaller and lighter for easy transport and setup and incorporate materials to improve the ring-down performance for characterization of nearby materials or scatter. Examples of how FLAT Antennas are used include:
- In our UHF Lens system to characterize materials.
- Anywhere where wideband, linearly polarized antenna measurements are needed.
Benefits of the FLAT Antennas:
- Smaller and lighter than conventional wide bandwidth horn antennas.
- Can be mounted on motion control systems.
- Easily transportable.

CTG recently developed a new paradigm in linearly-polarized antennas called the Flat Lens Antenna Technology or ‘FLAT’. These antennas have directivities like conventional dual-ridge antennas, but in a much lighter and “flatter” package. They can be used as a direct replacement for conventional horns for a wide variety of applications. They are made using composites technology so are also rugged and are ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications.
